Raat ke 9 baje TV pe anchor chillaya: “Sensex 900 points toota! Nifty bhi laal!” Montu ne ghabra ke apna app khola. Uske teen shares mein se do toh upar the. Usne didi se poocha: “Agar market gira, toh mera share upar kaise hai?” Didi hasi: “Kyunki ‘market’ matlab tera share nahi — ‘market’ matlab ek index. Aur index ek class ke average marks jaisa hai.” Is article mein wahi samjhenge — Nifty 50 aur Sensex kya hain, kaise bante hain, aur unke upar-neeche hone ka aapke liye asli matlab kya hai.

Quick answer: Nifty 50 and Sensex are India’s two main stock market indices. Nifty 50 tracks 50 large companies listed on the NSE; Sensex tracks 30 large companies listed on the BSE. Both are weighted by free-float market capitalisation, so the biggest companies move them the most. When the news says “the market fell”, it means these indices fell — not that every stock fell.

Index Kya Hota Hai — Class Ke Average Marks Jaisa

Ek class mein 50 bachche hain. Principal ko har bachche ki report card nahi padhni — woh bas class average dekhta hai. Average 2% gira, toh samajh aata hai ki overall performance thodi kamzor rahi. Lekin iska matlab yeh nahi ki har bachche ke marks gire. Kuch ke badhe bhi honge.

Stock market index bilkul yahi hai. India mein hazaaron listed companies hain — har ek ka price dekhna mumkin nahi. Isliye kuch badi, zyada trade hone wali companies ko ek basket mein daala jaata hai, aur us basket ki value ek number mein dikhayi jaati hai. Woh number hai index. Nifty 50 aur Sensex India ke do sabse famous index hain — ek tarah se market ka thermometer. (Market poora kaise chalta hai, woh yahan: Share Market Kaise Kaam Karta Hai)

Nifty 50 Kya Hai?

Nifty 50 National Stock Exchange (NSE) ka main index hai. Naam mein hi jawab hai: National + Fifty — NSE pe listed 50 badi companies ka basket. Ise “Nifty fifty” bhi bolte hain.

  • Kaun banata hai: NSE ki index company, NSE Indices Ltd.
  • Kab se: 1990s se. Iski base value 1000 rakhi gayi thi (base date 3 November 1995). Aaj ka level us 1000 se compare karke dekhiye — tab samajh aata hai ki 30 saalon mein Indian companies kitni badi hui hain.
  • Kaun-kaun si companies: alag-alag sectors ki badi companies — banking, IT, energy, auto, FMCG, pharma. September 2026 ke factsheet ke hisaab se sabse zyada weight financial services ka hai, lagbhag 37%. Matlab Nifty pe sabse zyada asar banks aur finance companies ka padta hai.
  • List badalti hai: har 6 mahine review hota hai. Jo company chhoti ho gayi ya kam trade hoti hai, woh bahar; jo badi ho gayi, woh andar. Isliye Nifty lagbhag us daur ki 50 badi, zyada trade hone wali companies dikhata hai.

Sensex Kya Hai?

Sensex BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) ka main index hai. Naam bana hai Sensitive + Index se. Yeh India ka sabse purana popular index hai.

  • Kitni companies: 30 badi, financially strong companies jo BSE pe listed hain.
  • Kab se: Sensex 1986 se publish ho raha hai. Iska base year 1978–79 hai, aur base value 100. Socho — 100 se shuru hua number aaj hazaaron mein hai.
  • Kaun maintain karta hai: BSE ki index company (Asia Index).

Nifty mein 50 companies hain, Sensex mein 30 — lekin dono mein zyadatar wahi badi naam wali companies hoti hain. Isliye dono lagbhag saath-saath chalte hain. Ek din Nifty 1% gira, toh Sensex bhi aam taur pe 1% ke aas-paas hi girega.

Index Upar-Neeche Kaise Hota Hai?

Yahan ek important baat hai: index mein har company ka weight barabar nahi hota. Weight decide hota hai free-float market capitalisation se.

  • Market capitalisation = company ke total shares × ek share ka price. Yani poori company ki market value.
  • Free-float = sirf woh shares gine jaate hain jo public ke paas trade ke liye available hain. Promoters ke saare shares (aur government ya strategic holdings) nahi gine jaate.

Ek chhota fictional example. Maan lo ek mini-index mein sirf teen companies hain:

Company (fictional) Weight Aaj ka move Index pe asar
Sapna Bank Ltd 60% −2% −1.2%
Pixel Phones Ltd 30% +1% +0.3%
Garam Chai Foods Ltd 10% +3% +0.3%

Do companies upar gayi, phir bhi index 0.6% neeche band hua — kyunki sabse bhaari company giri. Real Nifty mein bhi yahi hota hai: kuch badi companies ka move poore index ko kheench leta hai.

Points nahi, percentage dekho

News hamesha points mein bolti hai: “Sensex 900 points gira!” Sunne mein darawna lagta hai. Lekin agar index 75,000 pe ho (sirf example), toh 900 points matlab sirf 1.2%. Jab index chhota tha, tab 900 points bahut bada crash hota; aaj yeh ek normal kharab din ho sakta hai. Isliye hamesha percentage dekho, points nahi.

“Market Gira” — Iska Aapke Liye Kya Matlab Hai?

  • Har share nahi gira. Index average hai. Aapke shares upar bhi ho sakte hain, ya index se zyada neeche bhi.
  • Aapka portfolio alag hai. Agar aapke paas chhoti companies hain, toh unka move index se bilkul alag ho sakta hai.
  • Ek din ka move kahani nahi hai. Index roz upar-neeche hota hai. Long term mein kya hua, woh zyada matter karta hai — aur long term ka matlab saal hain, din nahi.
  • Dar mein bechna ek bahut common galti hai. Montu ne bhi yahi kiya tha — Beginner ki 10 sabse badi galtiyaan padh lo.

Kya Nifty Ya Sensex Mein Invest Kar Sakte Hain?

Index khud ek number hai — usse seedha nahi khareed sakte. Lekin aise mutual funds aur ETFs hote hain jo index ko copy karte hain. Inhe index fund kehte hain: Nifty 50 index fund wahi 50 companies usi weight mein rakhta hai. Kaise kaam karta hai aur kiske liye hai, yahan detail mein: Index Fund Kya Hai. Aur ek saath paisa daalein ya har mahine, woh decision yahan samjho: SIP vs Lumpsum.

Yeh sirf samajhne ke liye hai — koi fund ya timing ki salah nahi. Kahan aur kitna invest karna hai, yeh aapke goals aur risk pe depend karta hai.

Shuru Karne Se Pehle 3 Baatein

  1. Index ko apna report card mat samjho. Woh poori market ka average hai. Apne shares ko unki apni company ke hisaab se dekho.
  2. News ke shor se decision mat lo. “Black Monday”, “bloodbath” — yeh headlines click ke liye hoti hain. Percentage dekho, phir socho.
  3. Pehle basics, phir paisa. Demat account, broker, exchange — yeh sab samajh ke hi shuru karo. Poora rasta yahan: Share Market Kaise Seekhe — Beginner Roadmap.

FAQ

What is Nifty 50 in simple words?

Nifty 50 is an index that shows the combined performance of 50 large companies listed on India’s National Stock Exchange (NSE). When Nifty rises, it means these big companies, on average and by weight, rose in value that day.

What does “Nifty Fifty” mean?

The name comes from “National” and “Fifty” — the National Stock Exchange’s index of fifty companies. “Nifty 50” and “Nifty fifty” refer to the same index.

What is the difference between Nifty and Sensex?

Nifty 50 belongs to the NSE and has 50 companies; Sensex belongs to the BSE and has 30. Both use free-float market capitalisation and contain many of the same large companies, so they usually move in the same direction on the same day.

Sensex 1,000 points gire toh iska kya matlab hai?

Pehle percentage nikaalo. Index jitna bada hota hai, utne zyada points ka move normal hota hai. Maan lo Sensex 80,000 pe hai — toh 1,000 points sirf 1.25% hai. Aur index average hai, har share itna nahi girta.

Kya Nifty ke shares hamesha safe hote hain?

Nahi. Badi companies bhi gir sakti hain, aur index se bahar bhi ho sakti hain. Index mein hona sirf yeh batata hai ki company badi aur zyada trade hoti hai — yeh koi guarantee nahi hai.
