“Share market seekhna hai, par shuru kahan se karun?”

If you’ve typed share market kaise seekhe into Google, you’ve probably drowned in the answers — YouTube gurus promising crores, Telegram channels selling “sure-shot tips”, and textbooks that read like they were written for CAs. Somewhere between “buy the dip” and “candlestick patterns”, the actual first step gets lost.

Here’s the truth: learning the share market in 2026 is easier than it has ever been. Accounts open in minutes, information is free, and you can start observing the market without risking a single rupee. What most beginners lack isn’t resources — it’s a roadmap. A clear order of steps, so you’re not learning options trading before you know what a share even is.

That’s exactly what this article gives you: a 6-step roadmap, from absolute zero to your first informed investment. Montu, our resident beginner (and champion mistake-maker), will walk it with you.

Pehle Yeh Samjho: Share Market Actually Kya Hai?

Before any roadmap, one mental model.

Imagine your friend runs a chai stall — let’s call it Chai Ltd. Business is booming, and she wants to open 10 more stalls, but she needs ₹10 lakh. Instead of a loan, she splits her business into 1,000 equal pieces — shares — and sells 400 of them. You buy 10 shares. Congratulations: you now own 1% of Chai Ltd. If Chai Ltd grows, your 1% becomes more valuable. If it flops, so does your 1%.

The share market is simply the organised bazaar where such pieces of real companies are bought and sold — in India, mainly on the NSE and BSE, regulated by SEBI. That’s it. No magic, no casino (unless you treat it like one — more on that later).

The 6-Step Roadmap: Zero Se Share Bazaar Tak

Yeh roadmap follow karo, in this order. Each step has a rough timeline, but go at your own pace — this is learning, not a race.

Step Kya Karna Hai Time (approx.) Paisa Lagega?
1 Basics seekho — shares, exchanges, index 1–2 weeks ₹0
2 Market ko observe karo (bina invest kiye) 2–4 weeks ₹0
3 Demat + trading account kholo 1 day ₹0 (mostly free)
4 Paper trading / virtual practice 2–4 weeks ₹0
5 Pehla chhota investment (index fund / SIP) Ongoing ₹100–₹500 se start
6 Deep learning — analysis, mistakes, review Lifelong Time > Money

Ab har step ko kholte hain.

Step 1: Basics — Vocabulary Pehle, Trading Baad Mein

You can’t read a language before learning the alphabet. Same here. In week one, get comfortable with these terms:

  • Share / Equity — ownership ka ek tukda
  • Sensex & Nifty — the “scoreboards” of BSE and NSE; an index is just the average health of the market’s biggest companies
  • Demat account — the digital locker where your shares sit
  • Bull & bear market — market upar (bull) ya neeche (bear) ka mood
  • Dividend — company profit ka jo hissa shareholders ko milta hai

Structured beats random here. Instead of 50 disconnected YouTube videos, follow one sequence that builds concept by concept. (Shameless but honest plug: ArthKatha’s animated course was built exactly for this step — story-first, Hinglish mein, zero jargon assumed.)

Step 2: Market Ko Observe Karo — Spectator Mode

For the next few weeks, become a market watcher, not a participant.

  • Roz 10 minute Nifty aur Sensex dekho. Upar gaya? Neeche? Kyun?
  • Read one market-related headline daily and ask: “Is news se kaunsi companies affect hongi?”
  • Pick 2–3 sectors you already understand from daily life — FMCG (you buy soap), banking (you use UPI), telecom (you recharge).

Montu skipped this step. He opened his account on Monday and bought a random stock by Friday because “woh green mein tha”. Observation teaches you the market’s rhythm — that daily ups and downs are normal, and one red day is not the apocalypse.

Step 3: Demat + Trading Account Kholo

In 2026, this takes about 10–15 minutes with PAN, Aadhaar, and a bank account. Choose a SEBI-registered broker, compare charges (many discount brokers charge zero for account opening and delivery investing), and complete eKYC.

One reassuring fact: Indian markets now run on a T+1 settlement cycle — shares you buy land in your demat account the next working day (SEBI has even rolled out optional same-day T+0 settlement for many large stocks). The system is fast, digital, and regulated.

We’ve written a full guide on this — Demat Account Kya Hota Hai? — read it before you pick a broker.

Step 4: Paper Trading — Bina Paise Ke Practice

Paper trading means simulating trades with imaginary money. Maintain a simple Google Sheet:

“Aaj maine (kalpanik) ₹5,000 ke Pixel Phones Ltd shares ‘kharide’ at ₹250. Reason: naya product launch, quarterly profit growth.”

Track it for a month. Was your reasoning right? Wrong? Why? This step builds the most underrated skill in investing: writing down your reason before acting. Losing imaginary money teaches the same lesson as losing real money — at 100% discount.

Step 5: Pehla Real Investment — Chhota, Boring, Regular

Your first investment should be so small that losing it entirely wouldn’t hurt. For most beginners, the sane starting point is a SIP in an index fund — some funds accept as little as ₹100–₹250 per month. Why index funds? One purchase gives you a slice of the market’s top companies, no stock-picking skill required. (We’ve covered this in Index Fund Kya Hai — do read it.)

The goal of your first investment is not returns. It’s experience — feeling real money move with the market, and learning that you can watch a red day without panic-selling.

Step 6: Deep Learning — Ab Asli Padhai Shuru

Once you’re invested and emotionally acclimatised, go deeper:

  • Fundamental analysis — reading a company’s business, profits, and debt
  • Financial statements — P&L, balance sheet basics
  • Behavioural finance — why smart people make dumb money decisions
  • Review your own decisions every quarter — your best textbook is your own trade journal

Notice what’s not on this list for year one: F&O, intraday trading, penny stocks, and crypto “diversification”. Woh sab advanced (and risky) territory hai — walking before running.

Ek Kahani: Montu vs. Montu

Two versions of Montu started in January.

Impatient Montu skipped to Step 5 directly, put ₹50,000 (his emergency fund!) into a stock his cousin recommended, watched it fall 20%, panic-sold, and declared “share market ek scam hai.”

Roadmap Montu spent two months on Steps 1–4, then started a ₹500 SIP. When the market dipped, he understood why, stayed invested, and kept learning. After a year, his portfolio was modest — but his knowledge compounding had begun.

Same market. Same starting knowledge. The only difference was the order of steps.

FAQ: Share Market Seekhne Se Pehle Ke Sawaal

Share market seekhne mein kitna time lagta hai?

Basics (Steps 1–4) take most people 2–3 months of consistent, casual effort — 30 minutes a day is plenty. But investing is a lifelong learning game; even 30-year veterans are still students. The good news: you don’t need to “finish” learning before starting small.

Kya share market bina paise ke seekh sakte hain?

Bilkul. Steps 1, 2, and 4 of this roadmap cost ₹0 — free content, market observation, and paper trading. You only need real money at Step 5, and even that can start at ₹100–₹250 via a SIP.

Kya 2026 share market shuru karne ke liye sahi time hai?

The honest answer: the “right time” question matters far less than the “right method” question. Markets go up and down every year — nobody can reliably predict which. What you can control is starting small, staying regular, and learning continuously. Time in the market tends to matter more than timing the market.

Share market seekhne ke liye kaunsi degree chahiye?

Koi nahi. You need basic arithmetic, patience, and curiosity. Some of the worst investors are highly qualified professionals (over-confidence is expensive), and some of the calmest are everyday savers who simply follow a process.
